The early part of Derek Distenfield's career was in technology as an IT Officer for the Army. He deployed and commanded troops twice in Afghanistan where he received the Bronze Star. His battle tactics were published in two military journals. Since then, Derek Distenfield has continued to invest in and contribute time to tech-related ventures.

After his time with the Army, Mr. Distenfield became director of growth and community engagement for San Francisco, California-based outfit Bunker Labs. A firm that helped veterans launch their startups. In 2017, he began as chief officer for 360 Payments, a payment processing platform, and following that successful stint he worked as chief executive officer for San Francisco-based Cult Following. This firm helps founders who struggle with gaining traction.

Mr. Distenfield Co-founded GSD Venture Studios in Silicon Valley, a venture that travels internationally to help founders find ways to help their businesses grow. Derek writes for the Forbes Business Council as a business innovation columnist and lectures at top universities.
